Ambien Or Zolpidem?
over a year ago i started taking AMBIEN 10 mg for my sleepless nights.then when the generic came out i changed over to zolpidem 10mg. The trouble is i have been hearing that there habbit forming.I ask my DR and she said they were not. I tried to stop taking them but for 5 nights i could not sleep and when i did close my eyes i had wild scary dreams and sweats and was sick. I feel like i get to a point of sleep then i cant go into a deep sleep that we need. I think im addicted.I hate to see bedtime come.. its there any help or alternative drug i can use..has this happened to anyone else? and what are you doing to get over the habbit?

You said that you could not sleep when you stopped taking Ambien or the generic version. Isn’t that why you started taking the drug (because you couldn’t sleep)? I was a severe insomniac before I started Ambien. I have competed my college degree after dropping out a few times before I started taking Ambien. Yes, if you try to drive or go out (amazed that some people misuse the drug) you will have problems-but it clearly states to lie in bed after you take it. Anyway, I prefer being “addicted” to the drug, because I couldn’t sleep at all before. My doctor says that if this is the ONLY drug I take, it’s okay. I am only on 5mg at this time. Good luck to you. Don’t beat yourself up for needing help. This is comparable to taking any drug that improves your life. For instance, high blood presure medication, hormones. No one is perfect. As far as a natural remedy, I don’t know of one. If someone tells me drink warm milk or herbal tea, I know that they are uneducated about people with real sleep disorders. These things don’t work!

* Showing relief from anxiety when using Ambien
* Changes in mood—from a sense of well-being to belligerence
* False feelings of self-confidence
* Increased sensitivity to sights and sounds, including hallucinations
* Altered activity levels—such as sleeping for 12 to 14 hours or frenzied activity lasting for hours
* Unpleasant or painful symptoms when Ambien is withdrawn
* Preoccupation with running out of Ambien
Based on what you are describing you may have become addicted to Ambien–you don’t have to abuse it to become addicted by the way. It has a very low level of possiblity of addiction which is why most doctors will spout off that it isn’t addictive. Mostly…
I took ambien cr and I tried to ween off I think my body was so use to needing something to fall asleep. It took a while but iwas able to sleep with out them. I would talk with your doctor but try cutting in half to ween off.
One thing people forget when they become worried that they are addicted to something is that they started taking the medicine in the first place for a reason – it was that they had a problem. I doubt you started on Ambien because you slept like a baby.
So the reason that you cannot sleep now may be the same reason as before, and not that the medication became a habit. Really, anything can be “habit-forming.” I know people who always chew on pencils, but the pencils themselves aren’t causing the problem.
I thank God for Ambien/zolpidem every day. I couldn’t sleep before without antidepressants, and they had much worse side effects. As long as I can afford to get it, and it’s not causing me any problems, I have no issue with taking it to be able to function in my daily life, my job, driving, etc.
Sometimes I think medicines get a bad “rep” and we needlessly feel guilty about taking them when we shouldn’t. Practice good sleep hygiene, and if it doesn’t work, do what you need to do to live a normal, healthy life!
