Diazepam: Dental Surgery.. ?
Okay I should start off by saying that I have a fear of the dentist – massive fear, always have, since I was younger.
About 5 weeks ago a third of one of my molars fell out whilst I was eating.
In my latest appointment, my dentist told me that I needed 4 fillings and the tooth taken out.
I’m so afraid. I was told this news two weeks ago, and I can’t get the idea of it out of my head, I can’t concentrate on anything because I’m so scared of how much it will hurt ( and I know it does, as my brother went through it last year ) and just.. the thought of going there scares me.
My mother has diazepam as her doctor gave her a few last month as she suffers from vertigo and had to get on an airplane.
My mum reckons I need to take diazepam or some other sedative – and so do I – just so they can get me out of the door.
I don’t see how else I would be able to leave my house – it feels like I’ve been given a death sentence.
The appointment is soon and I need to know would it be okay to take this drug before I went in for my appointment?
I know I should ask my dentist but it even scares me talking to him.
Will any side effects make it harder for the dentist to operate?
Thank you so much in advance for any help

I took it but not daily, it is not recommended to take during pregnancy. I have a healthy son, he weighed 8lbs and was 20.8 inches long. I had a lot of issues with my pregnancy and do not know if any of those problems were because of the tramadol. I do not know why you are on it, but your doctor should change it if need be especially with you being pregnant. Not sure if this helps or not.
I can’t tell you about tramadol and pregnancy, but from personal experience with the drug it is pretty harmless. I know it says that it is similar to morphine, but it is no way near as strong and unlike other opiates there are no addictive side-effects or a lot of the other things associated with normal opiates. So I think 2 a day is pretty harmless.
Oh, my sister took it. One of my nieces now has gimpy arms. Sad, but true story.
I have never had a fear of Dentists, so come from a different angle. However, over the past four years I have needed fillings and off I went. Usually when they inject your mouth, half the side of your face goes numb and I call it the sympathy vote! You try drinking or eating after the filling and all you can do is drool. Well, last two times, no numbness, no drooling, and no sympathy whatsoever! They have a new technique that does not seem to involve injections, they use some form of air pressure instead of the old fashioned needle and because they use this new technique, they can literally just numb the tooth and not the entire face! I did complain and the Dentist told me he still had some of the ‘old stuff’ and could give me a numb face if I wanted it, but I was out and standing at reception by the time I realized my face was not numb. Have a word with the Dentist, explain your fear and they will only be too happy to help you. Dentistry like medicine is constantly evolving and what we went through in the past, is no more. Best of Luck
you need to talk to the dentist before taking any sedative before a dental procedure……..the dentist may likely be able to prescribe you something for your anxiety
I was also terrified of the dentist. She gave me diazepam to take to the the fear of going to the dentist.
She also uses the laughing gas to help me relax.
Tell the dentist your fears, and see if they will use laughing gas to make you feel more relax.
I hope this helps you out.
Good luck.
