I have been on Prozac, but I’m not right now. I didn’t notice any weight gain at all. It helped me a lot–and I mean a lot. I went from feeling terrible about everything to feeling normal. It was wonderful. I felt like I could think clearly again. It might take a couple weeks to get the full effect, so be patient and keep taking it even if you don’t notice anything right away. Unless, of course, you experience any negative side effects, in which case you should call your doctor. Hope you feel better soon.

  • i am using it from along time.it has helped a lot in coming out of depression.i have gained weight by about 5 kgs. but i do not think it because of medicine.it is more because of lifestyle.its a long treatment and you may have to take medicine for few years.
  • My doc switched me over to prozac, just started 3 weeks ago…I did not have any weight gain. It had a reverse effect on me; I lost my appetite/a few pounds. I have to force myself to eat, because if I don’t eat I will get a terrible headache. Another side effect that I have is dry mouth.
  • I took it for quite a while, and it helped my depression a lot. I didn’t gain weight on it. In fact, it suppressed my appetite so I didn’t eat as much. But everyone reacts differently to meds.
    I would say it’s worth a try. Prozac is a fine medicine as far as I’m aware. I think it is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and is in the same class as other anti-depressants such as Zoloft and Celexa or Lexapro. These are very effective for a lot of people. So give it a try, and take note of any side effects and see how you are feeling. If it works, great, but if not, then you can always try something else.

    Prozac doesn’t work, at all. I don’t know why it even exists. A couple years ago I took it, and had to be put in the hospital for a suicide attempt. It made me worse. I’m no longer taking any kind of antidepressants because they don’t work for me, at all. And I read that someone said zoloft works…maybe on SOME people, but my cousin was on that and he committed suicide. So, that just goes to show you, that not everyone can take a certain “good” antidepressant.
