I use it in parvo whenever I can get owners to pick it up from the pharmacy because my manager will not order it for our emergency clinic. However, for it to be effective, they have to keep it down. This is often problematic in cases that are profusely vomiting. It is also most effective in the earliest stages but of little value if you wait for days to get your dog into the vet.
One of the best ways to treat parvo is transfusion with hyper immune serum. This actually *fights* the virus. In addition, if the white blood cell count is tanked, massive quantities of antibiotics are necessary to decrease sepsis from other sources.
The absolute BEST way to not incur the cost of treating parvo is to get puppies from breeders that are trust worthy and use a vet to vaccinate the puppies on an appropriate schedule. And then get them boosted every 3 weeks for a total of 4 sets. Unfortunately, many shelters adopt out animals that have already been exposed to parvo.
would be nice
that’s very interesting,i will talk to my vet about this!i help out at animals shelters and this info can come in handy!thanks!
that would be awesome
interesting… i wonder if any studies have been done… sure would be nice if there was a cheaper way to help a dog with parvo!

found a good article all about it to verify
thank you for the information.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I will check it out.
Despite how many others are answering saying it is the Valium, I would disagree. Valium suppresses REM sleep which means you do not have dreams. This is why Valium is sometimes used to induce amnesia before surgery.
I was on Effexor and Xanax and the Effexor was giving me dreams (although not nightmares) every night. Since my doctor has switched me from Xanax to Valium, I no longer have dreams despite still being on Effexor.
You really need to speak to a doctor as it’s hard to pinpoint where problems are initiating when taking so many drugs. Dosages, when the drugs are taken in relation to each other, meal times in relation to dosing, etc., can all affect medication side effects.
You should also inquire as to the purpose for each medication. Perhaps the Valium is being prescribed to suppress nightmares but it is not working, in which case some tweaking needs to be done.
I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that it is the diazepam, the generic for valium, that is causing these adverse reactions. Oxycodone is for extreme pain. Percocet is a medication prescribed for pain. I’m not sure what celecoxib is, but it sounds like an arthritic medication. Valium is prescribed for mental stability if there is a chemical imbalance in the brain. So, that’s why I’m quite sure the medication that is affecting her negatively is the Valium. Try omitting this for 24 hours and see what happens, but as always, consult a doctor before discontinuing anything that the doctor has told her to take. Also, the dr. might recommend an alternative if she must take something equivalent to the valium.
Oxycodone is percocet. Same thing.
Oxycodon is a narcotic, and I know some narcotics are known to cause strange dreams when people take them. If you want you can talk to your doctor and perhaps change over to an alternative…. although for surgical pain, that is the most commonly prescribed take-home pain killer. If the dreams aren’t troublesome, bear in mind they will go away once she stops taking the meds.
I think your best way to find out would be to not look at each drug’s side affects individually, but search out and see if any combination of the drugs can cause this affect.
For instance, it may be Valium and Percocet mixed together causing it.
Nightmares can also come from a B vitamin deficiency…and meds can rob your body of vitamins…so I’d see if you could get her level checked.
well i know that valium is one that kind of messes with people. my grandma was in the hospital last year for heart problems and she was put on valium and she was not the same person, she was seeing things, yelling at everyone (which is not her nature), accusing her husband of cheating on her, she would ask for things so we would bring them to her but she would curse and yell and say how did this get here?! it does scary things to people. BUT talk to her doctor!
Oxycodone can casue nightmares … see attached web page. http://www.paindr.com/ACPA%20Medication%…
Actually, nightmares are associated with all the medications you’ve mentioned.
I have taken Percocete before and it was giving me nightmares too. U really should talk to ur wife’s doctor regarding this problem
