Should I Try Celexa? Really Scared About The Possible Side Affects. . .?
I am really nervous about taking a new medication. My psychiatrist quit her practice and I was referred to another doctor who does not believe in the benzodiazepine family. I have been taking Diazepam for almost three years. She says Diazepam only masks the problem. I have started a new job because I was let go at my my other one. I have anxiety and panic attacks, also I cannot sleep at night. I hear about all the possible side affects and I am so scared of taking Celexa. I am also a student. I still have the prescription and have not yet filled it. 10mg once a day to start out with.
Thank you all for answering in advance. I am just really scared on what to do since I have never been on an antidepressant.

I heard on my favorite afternoon talk show that some people are “under tasters” which makes you want to eat more. The test was to pour one of those little “pink” sugar substitutes into a cup of water, drink it. If it’s bitter, you’re an “over taster”, if it tastes sweet, then you’re an “under taster”. The suggestion by the DR on panel was to eat a few nuts (half a cup) about 30 minutes before your meal, eat slowly chewing your food very well and drink lots of water. Of course exercises is also highly advised, though he said the best “gym” was the one u have at home. Walk, cardio and weights. Walk 30 minutes everyday, Cardio 4-5 times (if you’re really overweight) and weights to tone. The DR said that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.
Good luck.
i have taken both. Meridia is the better one. Some Dr’s won’t prescribe it though because it has been known to raise your blood presure. It is sort of like speed, is what my current Dr. told me. But when i took it from another dr. it worked well, but you still have to excercise and watch what you eat. Xenical sucks, it makes you go to the bathroom ****, all the time, it gives you the runs. bad. a big waste. try the meridia 10 mg, it should work. it is expensive though, about $100.00 a month.
Xenical works by blocking the absorption of fat. Xenical is not an appetite suppressant. Since you said you eat pretty healthy and are always hungry, Xenical might not be a good diet pill for you.
Meridia works by making you feel full. Since you said you are always hungry, Meridia might be a better option for you if you decide to go the diet pill route.
Both Xenical and Meridia are available by prescription, so it would be best to talk to your doctor. Your doctor might be able to give you some other options also, diet pills and otherwise.
Diet pills won’t work magic and you can’t stay on them for the rest of your life. If you decide to go the diet pill route, you’ll still need to make eating and lifestyle changes if you want to keep the weight off permanently.
For middle of the night hunger, try drinking a glass of milk before you go to bed. It might be enough to hold you over until the morning.
I took Celexa for the past four months.
It made me dizzy and sick and gave me THE worst headaches.
I think it even made me more depressed at times – especially when I missed a dose.
Also, when Celexa isn’t the right drug for you it can cause you to have suicidal thoughts.
It did it to me and now i take Proxac or something like that.
It made my heart beat very fast to where I was driving and had to pull over. I went on to paxil and that was worse so now I am on Cymbalta. It is wonderful.
