What Causes Anxiety Attacks, It Felt Like I Was Going To Die?
I experienced a frightening anxiety attack – I think only those who have experienced one will know what I am talking about. I truly thought I was going to die, that I was losing consciensness and was too weak to even call 911. I just laid on the bathroom floor. It was so scary and I am scared if it happens again. What triggers it and what does it mean? Does it mean I have a mental problem and need to be on meds?

What you must know about panic attacks is that YOU CANNOT DIE!! This is very important because for a long time I too thought that I was going to die/lose consciousness. but if there is no physiological explanation for your symptoms then you have nothing to worry about.. You need to realize that you are in control and that you cannot physically pass out during a panic attack. When you have a panic attack in most/all cases your heart rate and blood pressure are elevated and the only way you can faint is if your brain isn’t getting enough blood/oxygen so when your heart pumps faster your brain is getting more blood circulation. This does not mean that you need to be on meds… It is scary yes but harmless and if it happens again you will now know that it is all in your head… there are many different triggers for panic attacks but at the main root of these attacks is stress… in order to combat this try to do things that relieve stress such as rigorous exercise or for me playing video games… good luck and just remember you have control of your body and your mind
Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

Many people at some point in their lives have these, I did. They can be brought on by stress. If you have been under more stress over the last month or so then that could have triggered it. It could have been something stressful at or around the time of the attack. I would not worry to much about it unless it happens again soon. If it does then you need to see your doctor. There are medications that can help for people who have anxiety disorders, but you don’t want to start taking those medications unless you really need them. Many of them can make you feel sleepy or tiered a lot. So watch yourself and if it happens again within say 1 or 2 months then I would go see your doctor.
I think every “trigger” is going to be different for everyone. I definitely know what you’re going through. I’ve had panic attacks before and they are so incredibly scary. If you have panic attacks often, I would definitely talk to your doctor. It will be your choice whether you want to have medicine to control it or you could go to a psychologist and they could hlep you find out what is causing your problems.
Good luck.
