What Will Happen To My Baby After Giving A Wrong Paracetamol?
Instead of paracetamol Infant drops, I wrongly gave my 2 1/2 month old baby boy a paracetamol suspension for 2 yrs and above.

depends on how much you gave… i wouldn’t recommend paracetamol at all for children tbh, but check the label and see how much in mg is in a 5ml teaspoon. if you gave your child anything over 250mg of paracetamol, you should be shot, but so long as you haven’t gone over that your child should be fine. if in doubt, go directly to a doctor or ER because paracetamol is notorious for damaging livers, causing centrilobular necrosis which cann be life threatening. give your child something else in future would be my recommendation.
Look at the end of the day it’s not a good idea to a newborn medication without consulting a doctor beforehand.
If you read the information supplied it discourages dosing children under 3 months. This is for a reason. You don’t want to incorrectly medicate a child and hide symptoms that should be investigated, especially with babies so young.
Although paracetamol is relatively safe, the dose you have given is five times what it should be. Overdoses can cause liver damage and symptoms don’t always show up immediately. This is rare though but shouldn’t be discounted.
Rather than panic or worry, I would contact your doctor immediately and query whether you should pop in and have bub checked. Don’t be too embarrassed to call or ask questions. Better safe than sorry.
I had a situation where the chemist read the doctors prescription incorrectly for my 4 week old and gave us the antibiotic dose for a 3yr old. The only reason I picked it up was because I also have a three year old and thought it such a large dose for a little one. I took the risk of not giving it to my babe and checked with my doctor the next day and he told me it would have been an overdose with quite serious implications.
Remember golden rule – babies under 2 always have “baby” medicine after that it changes to “children”.
depends on the dosage you gave to him
Should sleep really well!!!!!! No, seriously, ring the poisions information hotine and explain what happened. They will let you know if you should be concerned or not. Good luck.
nothing it is safe enough for babies but its not recommended, if you are really worried then phone the local hospital
