It might be good if it was available to all of us not just the racing industry
I give 5 or 6 way (which covers both types of influenza) west nile, and EPM (since both are prevalent in my area). I have not heard anything bad on the vaccine. Of course you should not give to pregnant mares or stallions currently in breeding, but otherwise, millions of horses get it, it is FDA approved, and is considered safe.
I always have my horses vaccinated and never had any problems.
My horses are all vacinated against it.
Surely it’s better to have the vacination, than to run the risk of your horse getting it and then watching him/her be miserable? Not to mention the cost of vet bills!
My horses have never had any adverse affects to it.
I always had my mare vacinated: ‘flu and tetanus. Never had any ill effects.
My horse had an ill effect from vaccination (needed veterinary attention) and I phoned the drug company to report it. They recommended gentle exercise after the vaccination in order to circulate the drug around the body.
I then changed vaccination brand on vet’s advice and had no problems. All my horses have been vaccinated as I compete to they are out and about.
Get it done. You cannot get correct insurance cover if your horse is not vaccinated, then if it comes down with flu, you’re left paying the vets bills
Consider what has happened in Australia with their massive flu outbreak. Their horses were not vaccinated as Australia had never before been exposed. A lot of the owners posted on here and you could tell that they were scared and worried about their animals. You can get a 5 way shot for around $25 and it is way cheaper and safer to vaccinate than have them contract it. One vet visit just to diagnose it would cost probably twice that of the shot not to mention the misery the horse goes through.
I get my horses vaccinated once a year for flu…done this for years and never heard of any ill side effects nor have I experienced any side effects.
There is a very very slight chance of a horse going into shock after vaccination and I do know of one person who lost a horse this way but it is very rare. Mine have always been vaccinated with no ill effects. But PLEASE do not exercise the horse so it sweats for 3 days after vaccination. Despite what some vets say, and people like the FEI say if you are competing, 1 vaccination per year is enough. Tetanus is OK every 2 years, but most vaccines are combined now.
I do a 5 way in the spring (which includes flu) and then in the fall we booster rhino/flu, and strangles. Since my horses do travel out and about, I figure it’s safer to vaccinate them than to worry about what they might pick up and bring home.
Definitely a necessity. You are going to protect your family against it, why wouldn’t you protect your horse.
my horses get a 5 way in the spring and then the little one because i took him to a week show and we are going to another one next week got a booster the flu and something else,
i have never had a problem with them!
my opinion is if you have the money go for it but in the long run it could turn out to be very expeniseve but if it will the horse industry then it must be a good thing being a horse owner myself i won’t get it done as the saying goes if the horse gets then they will get over it just like us getting the flu but for the racing industry then i think it will be worth it as it help the people who are involved as this equine flu has caused alot of problems all over the place
Are you taking these with or without medical supervision? If you’re self medicating, you may have a lot of different effects depending upon how much of each one you’re taking, so it’s hard to tell. It is not wise to take any medication and then drink alcohol, especially the Valium. You’re safest and best advice would be to consult your personal physician for detailed information. It is not wise for anyone on this forum to advise you regarding prescription drugs without knowing your personal background/physical conditions/mental conditions for using them. Good Luck, and please let your doctor know you have more questions for him/her.
They’re fine, but you need to be monitored by an MD…and NO, you should not drink alcohol with Diazepam
